Angels and Demons re-teams director Ron Howard and Tom Hanks for the sequel to the global phenomenon The Da Vinci Code. Both films have been adapted from best-selling author Dan Brown. Although Angels and Demons was written before The Da Vinci Code, the movie takes place after.
Hanks reprises his role as Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon. He is called upon to decipher a symbol that has been burned onto the chest of a murdered physicist, Leonardo Vetra. Italian scientist Vittoria Vetra, played by Ayelet Zurer, joins the adventure in search for an ancient secret brotherhood, The Illuminati, which is “the most powerful underground organization in history.” Clues put him on the trail of an international conspiracy involving the Catholic Church.
During Conclave, Robert Langdon races around the Vatican in search for answers. While Langdon visits the four alters of science: Earth, Air, Fire and Water, candidates chosen to become the next Pope start to disappear, only to appear murdered with Illuminati symbols branded on their skin. He and Vittoria embark on a non-stop, action-packed quest through dangerous catacombs, sealed crypts, abandoned cathedrals and to the heart of the most secretive vault on earth. What will they learn on the Path to Illumination and at what costs?
